The Second General Conference of the Rectors of the Middle East (C2R-MO) is a gathering of university leaders focused on building stronger academic ties and fostering innovation across the region.
The University of Sharjah is proud to host this important event, following its recent inclusion in the C2R Middle East last year during the first session held in Qatar. This conference is held under the kind patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Vice-Governor of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah. His vision has helped make our university a leader in both regional and global academic partnerships.
This gathering brings together presidents and rectors from more than 50 universities and research centers across the Middle East, all of whom are members of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF). With the AUF's key support, this congress offers a unique chance to talk about pressing issues. It shows our joint commitment to academic excellence, new ideas, and working together internationally.
The growth of the C2R is part of a bigger effort to boost scientific diplomacy in the francophone world. It highlights the key role that universities, research centers, and scholars play in tackling global problems like climate change, health crises, and youth unemployment.
It is important to highlight that His Highness Sheikh Sultan Al Qasimi has consistently supported our efforts to promote the francophonie within Sharjah’s institutions, particularly since the creation of the Center of Francophonie at the University of Sharjah. This initiative has established the University of Sharjah as the sole partner of the IDEF institute in the Gulf region, creating opportunities for student exchanges and academic development both locally and internationally.
Thanks to His Highness's unwavering support, the University has rapidly built key partnerships with leading francophone institutions through the Center. Today’s conference, alongside our growing collaboration with the AUF, is a testament to our deepening commitment to the francophone world and its academic community.
